Together for the holidays - A match-funding campaign

Since RefuAid was launched in 2015 we have worked closely with those who’ve sought asylum in the UK to understand the barriers people face in rebuilding their lives in the UK. Alongside the language barriers and difficulty in accessing requalification we have come to understand the financial hardship caused by a lack of funding support for family reunification. Family separation in situations of displacement and flight are common. Many families become separated on their journeys, in reception centres, and before they flee. Family reunion and the devastating psychological, economic and social impacts of family separation are one of the most pressing issues refugees face in the UK. Once people receive refugee status in the UK their priority is to reunify their family, yet they face huge barriers in doing so.

Under law, once you receive asylum in the UK you are legally entitled to reunify your spouse and/or any children under 18 with you. Once a family reunification visa is issued there is a narrow timeframe in which the family are permitted to travel (typically within 28 days of the visa being issued) meaning the reunification is under pressure to be completed otherwise the opportunity to reunify is lost.

It costs an average of £1065 to reunite a family, to help us raise funds and reunite as many families as possible please donate today. Your donations are being matched by a private foundation, meaning your funding will be doubled.
